About the Guild

The Santa Barbara Sculptors Guild (SBSG) was a non-profit organization that served as a community resource to encourage education, enjoyment, and appreciation of sculpture. For 50 years, from 1965 to 2015, the guild brought together sculptors, art enthusiasts, and community members who shared a passion for three-dimensional art.

Mission & Purpose

The guild's mission was threefold:

  • Education: Providing workshops, demonstrations, and educational programs to teach sculpture techniques and appreciation
  • Exhibition: Organizing annual exhibitions at prestigious venues to showcase members' work
  • Community: Creating a supportive network where sculptors could share ideas, learn from each other, and grow as artists

Historical Significance

Throughout its 50-year history, the Santa Barbara Sculptors Guild:

  • Hosted over 200 exhibitions at galleries and public spaces across Santa Barbara
  • Welcomed more than 500 members ranging from emerging artists to internationally recognized sculptors
  • Organized monthly meetings featuring guest speakers, demonstrations, and networking opportunities
  • Conducted annual studio tours showcasing local sculptors' workspaces and creative processes
  • Contributed significantly to Santa Barbara's reputation as a center for the arts

Archive Purpose

This archive was created to:
